Day 18

So ... we finished the CA Presentations ... with five minutes to spare.

I'm going to have to start to enforce the 10-minute guideline more strictly in the future.

and then we did the Writing Section of the exam.

all good!

Day 17

So ... we finished Hamlet today ... yes, we did that play that quickly. After break, we'll get as many presentations done as we can.

As one student said today "This is intense."

I might suggest this course is "in tents" as well. ...... ;)

Dad jokes ... love them.

Day 16

And onwards we go ... finished the Part 1 of Hamlet today.

We watched Hamlet give the same "I have to do something now" speech with the green screen behind him, showing the Norwegian Army moving to attack Poland.

Meh, it was pretty cheesy

Anyway ... we did the quiz, too

And did some CA presentations.

Day 15

And so ...we moved on to the next part of Hamlet.

Here are the questions assigned so far:

... and here is the highlight from the film:

Love that Act Three, scene one for good lines and squished faces.

Day 14

Since we are now done a good chunk of the course - we can do some celebrating. We are on the downslope as of 1:30 today!

Next week we will have Hamlet to do and the seminars on the various plays.

"Scene"

Day 13

So, we are taking the first part of today to work on the essay and presentation for the Culminating Activity for this course

I did finally touch this seminar deck for people to take a peek at right here

We also saw some updated marks and Act one, scene one of Hamlet. No questions or due dates yet set as I'd like everyone to focus on doing the essay tomorrow.

Day 12

I'm writing this in the library this morning with all of you.

It's cool to hear people working together.

I did get a few questions about the rubrics for the CA. I promised someone I was going to post the marking sheet with the rubrics on here. Here is the link to that, as promised.

Right ... I've gotten all the Frankenstein essays marked - I may have missed one or two that weren't in on time .... ahem ... but ... I marked like 29 essays last night.

I'm a machine!

I will also search the weird parts of my laptop for a level 2-3ish version of a seminar powerpoint for the ca and post it here .... as soon as I can find it.

Day 11

Good morning!

I made a short video of another student's level two/three-ish Log for the CA. You can watch it by clicking on this link here.

Here is a random picture from my hard drive, too

Finished reading Frankenstein

...and we finished reading Frankenstein! Congratulations! We read it in less than a week, by the way ...

Here are the questions for Part 2:

This is everything

...and we spent a bit of the afternoon section of the day conferencing on the essay and CA mini projects. We did adjust the due date for the mini project to July 23, as well.

Monday, July 16, 2018

Day 10

So ... we read until the end of Chapter 20 ... the story is at least getting interesting at this point ... well, actually I think it's scary and worthy of a great horror story, man...

So ... to continue we got to the end of Chapter 20 and got the following questions assigned

So ... we finished reading for the day about 9:30. We will work on our Frankenstein essays that are due tomorrow and the CA essays which we are doing in class on Friday.

Yup, its a busy day.

Oh and here are the topics:

Hey, Sir ... when is THIS due?

Get, you might want to read the entire post, my friend ... ;(

Day Nine

Today started off with the quiz on the first half of Frankenstein - it's all good, but we had to do it.

We did some reading - got to the end of Chapter 15 in the novel and got these questions for homework

We also did some work on writing an essay and I'll get the ppt up here as a .pdf, too.

Where I need you to be on Monday...

In any case, the marks went in and all is good.

All is good.

Or ... well, at least the parts I like are good.

Posted the due date for the Frankenstein essay and or Part 2 of Frankenstein, too.

Thursday, July 12, 2018

Day 8

So ... it's Thursday and I forgot my power cord for my laptop and the connection doohickey that goes between my laptop and the projector.

So ... I used my iPhone.

We read from the novel - we got to Chapter 12 and got to question 52 in the unit outline.

Then we finished poetry and got the Frankenstein essay outline and due date, too

We also got a chance to see the marks that are going in tomorrow for the Midterm report.

Woot!

Wednesday, July 11, 2018

Day 7

Right. On.

We will be doing some reading of the novel today - the goal would be to get to Chapter 8 in the novel. Anything after that is gravy.

Here are the questions that have been assigned so far - it's not a good idea to leave them to the last minute on Thursday to get them done.

Lots more room for numbers on this sheet

After the break we will do some Poetry - Poets and poems... getting close to the last day for this.

Of course ... culminating activity should be a part of your day, too.

Let's keep reading!

Tuesday, July 10, 2018

Day 6

Today we read to the end of Chapter 3 and got a bunch of questions ... which I forgot to take a pic of.

I'll get that up tomorrow.

We then did a bunch of Poet presentations, too.

and read some poetry ...

Day 5

We started the day with our quiz on the story Unit. All was good.

After that, we did the picking of plays for the Final Assessment/ISU/CA / big project for the course.

I will print that off and have it in class tomorrow - I won't post that list, as it now has names on it.

After the break, we got some Poet presentations done and then worked on the Webquest for Frankenstein.

And ... I'm hoping we can do some reading of the novel, too.

The two groups start out friendly, but they start to argue quickly. What do you think are some of the possible consequences for not resolving this conflict?
3    Why do the characters become frustrated with one another?
4   How does the alien Dathon choose to try and solve this conflict? What do you think about that solution?
5  What finally solves the big problem these characters have in this episode?

6    What do you think about the teacher selecting this as a item for serious study in a 4U English course? Is it “proper” or “improper” to be using science fiction in this course?

The Rocking Horse Winner by DH Lawerence

1.     So … what’s the big issue in this family?
2.     …and how does the main character try and solve this issue?
3.     What do you know about the main character by the end of the story?
4.     Is this a good way to try and solve this issue? Why or why not?
5.     Why tell this story using such simple language?
